What’s unique about this year’s Annual Gathering?

Changing up our format

Back to the basics

This year, we’re returning to the roots of what it means to gather, organize, and mobilize. The Annual Gathering’s program may seem more simple than in past years, and we won’t be providing all the elements of the day that attendees may have become familiar with—but the essence of the event remains the same: to nurture community, share knowledge, celebrate our movement, and remind ourselves of the power we hold together.

One learning space for all attendees

After facing months of targeted efforts to defund and disconnect us, we will not be splitting up this year’s Gathering attendees into separate tracks or sessions. Instead, we’ll be offering one large learning space for everyone to participate in together, with a program of stories, lectures, and dialogue.

Community Picnic — Bring a lunch, snacks, chairs, and blankets

The Annual Gathering’s signature meals featuring local producers, purveyors, and chefs will be back! This year, however, the event will be BYOP (bring your own picnic). We encourage attendees to bring something that represents home to you. There will be also be local food vendors onsite. More info to come!

What is the Annual Gathering?

The Annual Gathering for San Diego County Food Vision 2030 typically takes place every fall, featuring inspirational speakers, interactive sessions, open space for dialogue and networking, and local food.

In past years, over 500 San Diegans have come together to share stories and ideas for how we can invest in our local food economy, steward agricultural land and soils, elevate wages and working conditions for food and farm workers, center equity, community ownership, and cooperation in our food system, and more. These are key elements of San Diego County Food Vision 2030—our region’s shared vision, plan, and movement to cultivate a healthier, more sustainable, and more just food system.

The goal of the Gathering is to provide an inclusive and inspiring space for those working to cultivate justice, fight climate change, and build resilience in their communities—whether through transforming the food system, or leading other movements for social change.

Who can attend?

Anyone! Whether you produce, prepare, distribute, serve, or simply love to eat or learn about food, you’re likely to attend a session or make a connection at the Gathering that will be valuable to you. How we grow, move, share, and think about food touches everyone. Join us this August!
